‘FOZZY’S FORUM’
e-mail: fozzy@fosterclinic.co.uk

Website:

It is indeed heartening to see more members making use of the members section of the LCSP Register website, remember access to the members section is via your 4 digit LCSP membership number. Check out the members’ forum section where you will find regular updates of information and also the opportunity to exchange ideas or ask questions with colleagues and associates. We have a wealth of expertise, experience and knowledge lets use it to the best advantage.

Portfolio:

Members will all have received further updated information for their LCSP Register Personal Portfolio, keep all these documents safe and use this portfolio to build up your personal professional profile. This file is the ideal means in which to keep your certificates for CPD activity, reflective practice analysis, certificates of attendance for AGM’s, first-aid certification, insurance documentation, electrical P.A.T. certificate, fire safety equipment certificate and much more. The time is coming (sooner for some than others) when we all will have to demonstrate and prove our safe and effective practice, and a properly constructed and up to date portfolio will do just this. When the time comes when random checks are being done, I personally would hate to see a good established practitioner having to undergo mentoring or re-training simply because of a lack of ‘documented’ safe practice.

LCSP Directory of Practitioners / On-line Directory:

Will members please ensure that if they wish to be included in the above directories, they must return the previously supplied ‘yellow-peril’ form to the office, there is no separate fee for this service, however if your form is not returned with your details you will not be included. Inclusion is NOT automatic.

Anyone for Golf?:

Fozzy your Secretary feels the need to relax prior to the AGM on Friday 18 th May. The best way of ruining a good walk is to take some golf clubs with you. The plan will be to tee off around lunchtime so we should be finished in time for a couple of ‘sharpeners’ before heading for the evening AGM. If you similarly feel the need, contact me and the arrangements will magically be made.

Golf clubs and some measure of ability are optional, hip-flasks however are compulsory!

GCMT:

The present executive Council on which LCSP Register has two representatives will be replaced by a new ‘Shadow Council’ on 1 st January 2008. From this date the registration and regulation of all massage therapists becomes ‘live’. For more information on the policies and the expectations of the GCMT go to the website www.gcmt.org.uk there you will find the published standards for therapists, breakdown of CPD requirements, general information and FAQ’s.

OBITUARY:

Our condolences are extended to the family and friends of James Bridges of Tenerife, who passed away after a short illness.

James joined the LCSP Register in 1987 and continued in practice and membership until retiring in 2004

2007 LCSP Register Annual General Meeting

Friday 18 th May
A different format this year as I am sure you are well aware with the Annual General Meeting to be held on the Friday evening at 7.00pm with a free buffet after. This will also be an ideal chance to catch up with friends, colleagues and your Council Officers in a relaxed atmosphere.

Saturday 19 th May – Monday 21 st May
There is almost a ‘full house’ for the 3 day Orthopaedic Massage Course with James Waslaski from Dallas . If you are considering attending this event, make the call NOW, you will not be disappointed in the quality of this training and the difference it can make to your own practice.

This one course together with the AGM and some reading or research would easily satisfy your CPD requirements for the year and most likely improve your success and practice as well!

This weekend will be predominately ‘hands on’ practical training leaving you competent in applying assessment and diagnostic skills to both hip and shoulder conditions. The unique treatment technique to deep tissue release will be completely pain free and will allow for immediate and permanent results even in the most complicated conditions.

A comprehensive workbook is included with the course.

Full CPD certification will be issued.

Saturday 19 th May
For members not involved with the three day event, we have secured an interesting and informative set of presentations for the day.

Matthew Avery: The Research Manager at Thatcham, the Motor Insurance Research Centre. His presentation of ‘Vehicle Safety’ backed up with images and videos of crash testing will give a clearer understanding of the dynamics involved in cases of ‘Whiplash Injury’ which is the most common reported injury with over 250,000 cases annually and something that we deal with on an almost daily basis.

Dr. Paul Lambden: A speaker last year who generated e-mails and correspondence requesting a return visit. This year his presentation entitled ‘Oh Dear! I wish I hadn’t said that’ will take us through the pleasures, perils and pitfalls of communication, from one to one with patients to interactions with the media. Delivered in his own inimitable style it will prove to be both entertaining and informative.

Gareth Millard: The Managing Director of Three Counties Insurance Brokers, will not only be prepared to take any questions related to insurance problems encountered by the members but will focus his presentation on the various unforeseen and often bizarre situations that can and do cause major problems for anybody running their own business.

Saturday will be rounded off with a Dinner Dance for all delegates.

The cost for the Saturday inclusive of tea/coffee, lunch and dinner dance is £95.00. Additional tickets for the dinner dance can be purchased at £25.00

Preferential accommodation rates have been negotiated with the Holiday Inn and are available by direct contact on 0870 2254701 option 7, quoting ‘LCSP Register Conference’.

There will be a trade exhibition with a wide variety of exhibitors running throughout the weekend.

To confirm your attendance and reserve tickets contact LCSP Register, 330 Lytham Road , Blackpool . Telephone: 01253 408443
