john sharkeyAt this year’s AGM John Sharkey MSc is our guest speaker.

John Sharkey MSc is a unique manual therapist combining academic qualifications as a clinical anatomist (BACA) and exercise physiologist (BASES). He brings more than thirty years of clinical experience to his presentations peppered with the experience he has gained throughout his career working alongside his mentors and colleagues Leon Chaitow, David G. Simons, Stephen Levin MD, Professor Kevin Sykes and other accepted pioneers.

As a clinical anatomist and published researcher John provides bespoke dissection courses specialising in Thiel soft fix cadaver technique and fresh frozen cadavers providing unique research opportunities in Fascia and BioTensegrity. Promoting the sparring of fascia during invasive operative procedures is an important goal for John.

John is now recognised as a leading protagonist of BioTensegrity (the new anatomy for the 21st century) providing new models and paradigm shifts concerning living movement and anatomy promoting therapeutic interventions for the reduction of chronic pain . He is a best selling author with titles on myofascial trigger points and fibromyalgia and has three new titles with North Atlantic Press/Lotus Publishing planned for 2016. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies (JBMT), International Journal of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and the International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine.

This exciting presentation will introduce the delegates to the concept of Bio Tensegrity and how it applies to human anatomy and motion.

The presentation will include delegate interaction and exchange backed up with visual stimulation and samples of tensegrity structures.

Together the presentation will inform, discuss and demonstrate how Bio Tensegrity can influence all bodywork therapy.

AGM on 27th June in Blackpool

This year’s AGM is to be held on the 27th June at The Urban Village Resort, East park Drive, Blackpool, FY3 8LL (0871 222 4616).

By the time you receive this edition of the newsletter, it will be over 12 Months since I became your President and had to hone my writing skills, something that clearly I have not yet perfected.

“The life so short, the craft so long to learn”

Prior to this year’s Annual General Meeting I went to Cambodia and Vietnam, a superb trip with such a variety of cultural differences and cuisine, everything about the trip was enjoyable and the weather was perfect too. On my return I drove from Wales to Preston for the AGM, arriving late, which is not good for the President. In my defence there were two separate incidents on the motorways, It always seems to happen to me when travelling, ‘motorways don’t like me’ for some reason. However, the meeting went well and I was re-elected as President for another year, thanks to each and every one of you for this continued honour and privilege. Read the rest of this entry →

‘Yesterday is not ours to recover,
But tomorrow is ours to win or lose.’

I set out for the regional meeting leaving from Newport to Paddington and then across London to Kings Cross and on again by train to Cambridge, a short taxi ride later and I arrived at the Holiday Inn, a total travelling time of 4 hours.
