SPORTS MASSAGE ROLE PROFILE
Sports massage has a key role as one of the physical therapy services provided at the Commonwealth Games 2014. The sports massage therapists will be predominantly based at the Polyclinic in the Commonwealth Games Village, or at one of the competition venues, where they will work alongside the physiotherapists and sports medicine doctors. As part of a multi-disciplinary team it is expected that you will be involved in both pre-event and post-event sports massage services to the athletes. You should have the necessary experience to know when to seek specialist assessment and also be willing to accept referrals from specialist colleagues.

Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team, having excellent communication skills and a hard working ethic are therefore essential.

It is expected that the Sports Massage volunteers will possess a Sports Massage or Sports and Remedial Massage qualification to level 4 minimum and will have been qualified for a minimum of two years prior to application. (Jan 2013). Exceptional cases out-with these criteria may also be considered where evidence of experience within an elite sports environment can be demonstrated. Up-to-date professional insurance to a minimum of £5 million and a current First Aid certificate are also required.

Experience of working with elite athletes whilst preferable is not essential.
